Behind the Batch #1: We’re Retiring Our Glass Jars

From Aline & Jon, Koko Kai Yogurt

For six years, Koko Kai has come in an 8oz glass jar. It’s classic, it’s recyclable, and honestly — it’s heavy, expensive to ship, and breaks more often than we’d like to admit.

The move away from glass wasn’t a branding decision. It was a survival one. Between the cost of manufacturing in Hawaiʻi and the cost of glass itself, we hit a point where it was change the packaging or eventually close up shop.

Starting this month, we’re transitioning to a 4oz paperboard cup — lightweight, FSC Certified, and made from a renewable, sustainably managed forest source. Same short-ingredient recipe, same billions of probiotics, same Hawaiʻi kitchen. Just a lighter footprint, literally and environmentally.

And because the new packaging costs less to produce and ship, we’re passing those savings straight to you. Koko Kai is now $3.99 — our new everyday price, starting with this transition.

We’ve already shipped new inventory to our wholesale partners across Hawaiʻi. You’ll start seeing it on shelves over the next few weeks, with full transition expected by mid-to-late August as each store works through its existing inventory.

Change is never simple for a small-batch brand. But this one felt right.
